Rethinking of AU’s Role in the Peace Process of Sudan

Deng Yanting

AU lacks an independent judgment of the relationship between war and peace as well as sovereignty and human rights under special circumstances in Africa, which has become the biggest impediment to its providing effective protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity for its member states. As a result, to form a system of values which would truly reflect Africa’s specialties will be the key to AU’s construction of collective security in Africa.

A Study of South Sudan’s Status: From the Perspective of the Construction of a Modern Nation-State

Li Jie

Since the separation of South and North Sudan in 2011, South Sudan has begun its construction process as a modern nation-state. An Analysis of India’s Monroeism

Li Zhonglin

India’s diplomacy since independence has been deeply affected by the American Monroeism, which has seen the South Asian sub-continent and India Ocean as its sphere of influence, expelled all the outside forces and wished to establish itself as a dominant power in the region. Although India has some advantages in pursuing such a doctrine, it at same time has to face some challenges as its aggressive, exclusive and self-centric foreign policy towards the region has made it engage in a zero-sum game with outside powers.

India’s Big Power Complex and China’s Strategy towards India

Mao Keji  Tu Huazhong

Big power complex is not only a key factor in India’s foreign strategy, but also a factor that exerts a great influence on its security thinking. China should attach great importance to India’s big power complex, capitalize on its friendly attitude towards China, set aside the structural contradictions between the two powers, and try to make it play a positive role or at least not to be an obstruction in China’s process of rising.

Zhou Gang

American war on terrorism in Afghanistan has exerted great negative impacts on the security situation of Pakistan. After the parliament election, Pakistan’s new government is likely to adjust its policy on terrorism and improve its relations with the US and Afghanistan. The friendly relationship fostered by China and Pakistan has set a good model for other countries. Premier Li Keqiang’s visit to Pakistan has set a new strategic stage for China-Pakistan cooperation and marked a new phase for their bilateral relations

The Development, Achievements and Future Trend of FOCAC

Xue Lin

At the beginning of the new century, China and African countries were in urgent need to establish a new platform for communications, so as to resolve the problems and challenges they came across in their respective development. FOCAC came into being under such circumstances and has since then made significant achievements with efforts by both Chinese and African leaders. To make the development of China-Africa relations more sustainable, FOCAC should try to bring about the initiative on the part of African countries, stress on bilateral and multi-level cooperation, and coordinate the interaction of the development aid and investment.

Why Little Change Is Made to Obama’s African Policy

Liu Zhongwei

The chief feature of Obama’s African policy during his first term in office was that he inherited George W. Bush’s African policy rather than changed it. He did so in consideration of both internal and external situation as well as running for a second term in office. During his second term in office, Obama is likely to make some drastic moves in his African policy, so that there will be new changes in his African policy on the bases of the traditional one.

An Analysis of Validity and Stability of the Arab Monarchy

Jiang Yihuang

Although the Arab monarchies remain relatively stable in the present chaos of the Middle East, it does not mean that they are quite safe. The monarchs of those traditionally ruled states may come down as the oppositions in their countries are more likely to question their religious legitimacy. In this regard, they should make some changes in response to the public wishes and put issues concerning political democratization and the improvement of livelihood on top of their political agenda.
